FIFA Football Committee member and Grassroots Instructor, Trinidadian Alvin Corneal is in the Spice Island to conduct a FIFA Grassroots Seminar with some 30 Grenadian Coaches.

The Trinidadian maestro in football will conduct his sessions at the National Stadium from 7-11 January.

According to President of the GFA, Chenney Joseph, Alvin Corneal has seemingly done all there is to do in the world of Trinidad and Tobago football, and he hasn’t stopped there either. His playing days predated the professional era in Trinidadian football, but that didn’t keep him from lining up 119 times for the full national team between 1955 and 1969, a span in which he scored no fewer than 69 goals. Not bad considering Corneal was also a top-tier cricketer on his home islands from 1955 to 1971.

He is described as a renaissance man in Caribbean sporting circles, Corneal, has had an impressive run as a football coach as well. He has run the rule over various Trinidad and Tobago youth and senior national teams (guiding T&T to their first Caribbean Cup crown in 1982). He has held the post of senior national team coach for fellow island group St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana and Barbados as well as stints coaching in the United States University and professional systems.

Corneal, an occasional writer and television presenter, is also a member of the FIFA Football Committee, a long-serving member of the FIFA Technical Study Group and a special technical advisor to the national teams of Trinidad and Tobago.

In 2009 Corneal was awarded the “Hummingbird Medal” for loyal and devoted service to sport in Trinidad & Tobago.

Joseph said the Grenada Football Association welcome this decorated Caribbean son of the soil to our shores and wish him every success in the coming week.
