HALEIWA, Hawaii, USA; BRUSSELS, Belgium; VICTORIA, Seychelles; BALI, Indonesia – The International Coalition of Tourism Partners announced that Idaho Tourism has joined the coalition as a member.
ICTP Chairman Juergen T. Steinmetz said, “We are pleased to welcome Idaho Tourism to our growing alliance of members. Idaho is primarily a leisure-travel state, with most visitors going to experiencing the outdoors, seek adventures on tours, and attend special events. The focus of Idaho Tourism on outdoor activities, naturally lends itself to green tourism – a fine partnership with our alliance.”
“Idaho, home to some of the most scenic adventure land in the world, is committed to promoting sustainable tourism,” said Karen Ballard, Chief Tourism Officer for the state, “As a year-round destination with two-thirds of our landscape belonging to the public, we have several unique programs that serve a diverse range of travel activities, including a Greater Yellowstone Geotourism map, Top 10 Scenic Drives in the Northern Rockies and coordination of voluntourism opportunities.”
As defined by Jonathan Tourtellot, Director of the National Geographic Society’s Center for Sustainable Development, geotourism is: tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place – its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents.
“These principles align well with the mission of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners, and we are honored to have been accepted by the organization,” said Ballard.
